Comparatively, not at all. I care much less about others than most people I think.

However in reality it is integral to both me and everyone else. How do we measure ourselves? By contrasting with others. If everyone is starving. Suffering. At poor health. Disease. Some calamity, world war, worse epidemic, you name it. And there you are. The only one well fed, healthy, with energy and means to do things just as before? You'd instantly label yourself a winner. Similarly if everyone around you is doing excellent and you are doing okay? Instant loser.

I think it is fair to reason that our capacity for this is partially envy. Making envy not just a bad trait but an important tool to assess our own situation.

Nah. When I see someone more successful in life than me, it actually inspires me to better myself. It makes think, “Nice. I look forward to reaching my own goals too!” It’s not a me vs them. It’s me seeing how they've succeeded with their own goals on their own personal journey, and I want to reach my own goals on my own personal journey too.

Not at all. I'm happy for others to succeed, and if I feel myself growing envious, I remind myself to be grateful for what I've got while working towards obtaining whatever it is that's stuck my fancy.

Never. We are all unique and we all follow our own path. And we all want different things in life. Envy stems from deep insecurities in my opinion.
