My boyfriend uses cocaine occasionally and recently he went M. I. A for 2 days until it wore off. Is break up reasonable in this case?

It doesn't take that long for coke to wear off. Coke is a very short-lived high. If he was MIA for 2 days, it's because he kept doing it over and over. The thing about coke is that as soon as you do it, you immediately want more. It's not a cheap drug. He probably spent a fortune on his binge and only stopped when he ran out of coke and ran out of money to buy more.

He likes it too much. He is not controlling the drug, the drug is controlling him. He may or may not be truly addicted, but he certainly likes it too much.

You don't need this in your life. Give him an ultimatum. Either he quits or you leave. Quitting means for a good long time because he could still be drawn to it months from now. Don't give any second chances.

Adjusted for inflation I've done over $500 worth of coke in a half hour before. That's when I had a minimum wage job, so that's a hell of a lot of money. (it's cheaper today than it was then) The only reasons I never became addicted were because I never shot it up, and couldn't afford to do it regularly. Watching true addicts with needles in their veins for an hour straight, pumping and milking, is pretty disgusting to watch. I didn't want that to be me. Fortunately it never was, but could have been.

It's a highly addictive drug, probably more psychological addition than physical addiction. But either way you don't have control over it.
