Another thing anyone can be an author it depends on perception. Technicaly i am an author now writing this. And so are you. If by author you mean published in a publishing house thats more a writer. Maybe he got confused. Either he was confused or he is a genuine liar. Either way if he admited he lied then maybe he has a tendency to lie and he will probably do it in the future. And if you dint show that you forgive him now he will do it again and dont admit it. Another thing if you have only be on a couple of dates and dont know him verry well one could say he doesn't know you enough to owe you anything yet and yet he diminished his ego substantially for you by admited he lied most guys dont do that. But again if he lied once he most likely will do it again if its something you hate then maybe you should move on. But my theory is that a huge percentage of human being lie even if only white lies. Some are better at lying than others they are the once that should worry you. Some men lie so well that noone ever find out. those guy will do the worst things behind your back like cheat on ypu sometime everynight and you will never know for sure. The fact that guy admited to his lie i think its kind of nice.
