It's weird or even surreal that to state: they might just honor their relationship in this way, genuinely care about the person they are with, consider it a violation of their life principles - aka stay faithful - feels like completely misplaced in the modern reality.

And that's no good at all. People with too much sense of freedom have large freedoms to degenerate as people too, to name one example of not so desirable freedoms.

But well, why not so desirable just leave them be? Yeah, I would. If their life philosophy would not impact the aspirations of the society and of individuals indirectly due to an effect of homogenization of ideas and behaviors present in society in total and to proliferation of human weaknesses. This leads to decadence of mind and soul and decadent minds and souls wage wars. Social wars, imperialistic wars, wars for self-enrichment etc. They further sink in self-indulgence neglecting existence of other people who get harmed from their ways of life. What might begin as cheating on the elementary levels can become indirect mass murder and throwing millions of people into poverty on the higher ones.

One might not be able to see the connection of overall degradation to such humanitarian catastrophes and to the failure to be a human being that deserves that name. Well, there I can not necessarily help. Either one sees this bigger picture or one does not.

From bad comes bad to simplify it to the level, on which it makes sense at least in terms of words to even shallowest of the shallow readers.

I don't do it for a lot of reasons, but by far the most self-centered reason is that cheating seems like so much effing work.

That's what I never understood about cheaters... conducting an above-board relationship is so much work. Why the hell would you want to add an additional layer of needing to keep everything secret? And that's assuming you don't care about the morality and ethics of being unfaithful.

I am so good on that. There is no woman alive that is worth that kind of effort. She does not exist.
