Every time he cheats it is a strange piece of ass [another notch in the belt] and he goes back to his steady piece of ass that he knows will take him back. Stack of reasons , lets just cut to the chase , assuming he is under 30 , most guys want multiples , that's a fact , in the example you give this guy uses the girlfriend as a " backstop " , he is young , he knows she is there ( no selling required ) and he sets out to sow his wild oats , nothing to see here , happens all the time..
No biggie , he is not going to change ( at this point ) .

Just because we cheat it doesn't mean we like or love the other woman. We love our woman but sometimes we just need something different. You get bored after eating same dish, you get bored after same sex position. If you're skinny maybe we just want a curvy bitch, or the other way around. But that doesn't mean we necessarily like her or love her. That's why we return to our women because our heart belongs to her. And we also feel guilty (some do some don't) because we just act in the heat of the moment and lose the woman that we actually love. I also don't think it's okay to cheat but if he keeps on doing it then maybe he's a compulsive cheater and need to get away.

For many reasons. One because the girl takes him back. Especially if he’s done it numerous times. If she keeps taking him back of course he’s going to continue. Two, whether you believe it or not the dude may love you, he doesn’t live her, it’s purely sexual. So most men, unlike a lot of women can separate those feelings from sex. I’m not saying it’s right, just saying men can sleep w a girl one night, then not see her the rest of his life but he’s ok.
