It's fun to flirt. It makes the other person feel good about themselves. It's nice to get that attention. A lot of times it can be done in a joking manner or sometimes it can be done unintentionally. I'd say for the most part it's just nice to make someone else feel good about themselves, feel attractive, etc. It also tends to make the person doing the flirting feel good/attractive as well.
