Honeslty, it would just come down to wording for me. Like, it's a purely mechanical problem, but my gut instinct takes what you said to mean "I will love my cats more than anyone including you". That doesn't seem to be what you said, but it's one of those little unconscious things that can sour a date.

If you're just saying that you love your cats a whole bunch, then no there's absolutely no problem. Cats are great! However, I do not want to be competing for attention and basic care with a cat. Some people go all in with the pet children thing and entirely ignore the human people in their lives that need them.
