He asked about my family history, is he interested in me?

I have been seeing a guy for 2 months. Yesterday he randomly he asked me.. do you know much about your family history? How many generations back do you know? I told him I only know from my great grandparents on my mum’s side. I was a bit vague because I don’t know much.
He then proceeded to say a women takes on the man’s name when they get married etc etc. does it seem like he is just curious or does he like me and considering if I’m good for his future. Also is it ok to tell him I was a bit vague because I don’t know much about my family history? Or will that be a turn off?

I mean... it certainly shows interest in you as a person. In a general way. It COULD be that he had an eye to considering whether you would be good for his future... but not necessarily.

But even if he wasn't asking for the reason you're thinking, its still a good sign. Its the kind of question you ask someone because you're (at least) genuinely interested in their answer. It's not really a regular "small-talk" kinda question. So it shows interest even if not necessarily romantic interest.

Although, again, you could indeed be right about where he's coming from. There is no way to read that where you can be sure.

Its no problem if you were vague about your family history regardless of why he was asking. If he actually cared enough about your family history for that to be a factor in whether you're good for his future... to the point the he would have a problem with the fact that... you simply don't know a whole lot about your family history... then the guy's an asshole. He won't care that you don't know.

It SHOULD be a more "general interest" question rather than something he's evaluating him on. Lets say you come from a long line of no-good-scumbags who all ended up in prison? So what? Does that mean you're less desirable? If so... that guys an idiot.

I would take it as an overall good sign.
