I asked a guy out and he replied "i would date you, but im not dating rn" then continues to say that 'i'm his'. Is that immediately a rejection or no?

He has been saying stuff that makes it seem like were dating. Many people in our friend group think we are/should. I think the texts just mean were semi-dating but its not official. He said he's still going to say things like he had been (Not that i mind), but doesn't wasn't too say were dating. It's so confusing.

I realize this is a red flag, but i don't know if I want to stop talking to him. he's a great guy besides this one thing. And i kinda expected it in the beginning because he just got out of a toxic relationship. I don't know what i should do.

He probably likes the attention he is getting from you but doesn’t actually want to date you. It doesn’t mean that there is anything wrong with you but I don’t think you should put the energy into someone who doesn’t see your value
