Was it a joke or did he not want the other guy to approach me?

So one day a guy A came ask me what subject I wanted to take for next period, then a guy I have a crush on interrupted our talk, he said to the other guy that I had a “friend” already, I replied to him “you’re crazy”, but he kept repeating it, the other guy said “just a friend, so what?”. He kept saying “she already has a friend ”. Then other guy couldn’t take it anymore then left.
I’m not taken. Just wondering if a person would joke like this? Or he joking that the other guy was interested? Or he simply didn’t want other guys to approach me?
I’m not sure..
