No, they're saying it because they are jealous. I used to have a friend that used to call me ugly because she knew, she just knew I was smarter than her! Often when someone is jealous of you, they will try to find some quality or feature on you to downgrade and try to diminish you.

For the longest time I thought I was ugly because of my one friend, and I'm pretty sure I dated more people than her.

Never let someone go to your head like that. They can destroy your self-esteem and make you feel like an ugly, worthless nobody. If that would have been me this person called ugly, I would've said, "You're just jealous because I look better than you."

Been there! Done that! Conquered them! Oh, the look on her face!

Even if this person was drunk, the thing about drinking, there's an old saying, "A drunk person's thoughts are a drunk person's words". But that doesn't make what they are saying true. This person is just jealous of you!

I am only guessing, that "family member' was an older sibling? If that is correct, siblings, especially older ones have a 'reputation' of being ass holes to younger siblings. I have seen it over and over in different families, and for reasons I can only guess at. Jealousy, just simply 'sibling rivalry".

You didn't give your age, but guessing you are late teen, 19 maybe. At that point in your life, you have to consider the person that makes those kind of idiot remarks, and simply ignore them... I have seen it from my own brother and from a cousin making fun of her sister. In retrospect, when I heard the cousin shooting off her mouth at her younger sister, I should have unloaded on her right on the spot but sadly, I did not.
