Why was he accusing me of cheating if we aren't together?

this guy i was into admitted to me that he had been sleeping with other girls after i had a feeling about it. We weren't together. Weeks before he was accusing me of talking to other guys and sleeping with them multiple times for no reason. I asked him was he seeing someone else but he never said he was but asked me why was i asking him that.

After accusing me multiple times, each time he said it was a joke, he doesn't care if i was seeing other men because we aren't really dating. He did it over and over until we got into a fight and i hurt his feelings and he finally admitted that he was sleeping with other women. Why was he accusing me if we weren't really dating? There's no reason to feel guilty about it.
