My boyfriend doesn't like me talking to my ex?

I'm a 22F and my boyfriend is the same age. My ex (same age), has bipolar disorder. It's hard for me to abandon him because I can't really abandon anybody, he has trauma and his issues. I don't love him like that anymore but he will occasionally flirt and makes jokes, knowing I have somebody. This isn't unusual because he does this with everyone due to his issues but my boyfriend gets upset by it. I don't want to just abandon him, because doing that to people hurts me since I don't ever want it done to me. How can I get my boyfriend to understand?

All u can do is explain the situation and ask him to trust u and respect your choice but equally he doesn't have to accept that and if its a big enough issue it may cause him to end things

He is not your responsibility.. If you cannot drop your ex, it shows you're not ready to move on. Were I in your boyfriends shoes I'd leave you if you couldn't cut ties with your ex.. Your ex is a big boy, he can get along with out you.

He is right. Exes should not be in communication with one another. Communication with an ex means you have not moved on. I consider such communication to be a deal breaker.
