I am not sure that is true that average relationship lasts 18 months... Hell I have not had one last more than 8 months in like years. They usually start off really great, and right around the 4 months mark you think like maybe she could the one that breaks the mold... and then by 6 months it over. Like completely dead.
But most stats do say that people, that date for least 12 months or more before marriage. Some say that around 3 years, is when things start to change within relationships. We you both start to settle in, and the things that used to really exit you just don't anymore.
I will tell you this, if I can stay in a relationship for more than 12 months with the same woman ever again in my life. I will do a back flip... just one. I am too old at 46 to risk more than one at a time.

It takes time to get to know someone. Also even if you where friends from before, we don't know the "off time" versjon of your old friend that now is a date. Also if you date because your lonely you tend to choose someone wrong for you out of desperation, so that when your not really deep in love and its a superficial love then when the sparkle of the superficial love burn low then you don't feel the love anymore. But of you had that deep love from the beginning then you will feel in love for a long long time. Also we humans tend to forget that a love interest is not just a lover but also a friend, if you can't picture yourself as a friend with your loved one if there was no romance in the picture then your relationship is doomed. Lastly love takes work, just because you found the one don't mean you should lay back and don't do anything to keep the flame going. Work on it, work on yourselves, work together.
I’ve had 2 last for 2 years. The rest were less than 6 months. See with those first two, they got more chances then they deserved but thats because we had reached the level of sex and my judgment was pretty fcked after gettin fcked. At least with the shorter relationships, they ended because i stopped tolerating bad behavior and I also stopped making excuses for my own bad behavior. If we ain't gone work, we just ain't gone work and I rather not waste more time trying to make two wrongs into a right. At this rate, I’d be lucky to make it to 18 months with someone 🤣
My last and my 2nd relationship were 4 and 7 years long. Both miserably horrible life experiences that have impacted me greatly.
At 18 months we were horribly inseparable and did absolutely everything together. 10 years later after some heeling and patience, the dating scenes are weird. “Dating Scenes “ did not exists before for me. We all rode our bikes outside and would cross people all over the place and eventually say hi about a bike thing. So this dating stuff is silly and divides people.

This is simply explained (although I might get a lot of heat for it). The first 2 years of a relationship is driven by lust. When the lust calms down people start to really see who they are dating. After 2 years what keeps people together is love or habit. Some people hate change even if they have a bad relationship.
I had one end not long before 2 years before, we were nesting partners too. You get to a point where you are past the honeymoon stage and onto real life issues, or if there was any deception, the cracks will have shown by then. I felt a lied to about half way in but looked pasted it maybe too easily.
Because of something called "limmerance". When a person meets someone for the first time and starts developing feelings towards the. They erroneously mistake this for "love", It isn't. Human being cannot fall in love that fast. But without limmerance people would not fall in love.
Limmerance actually last anywhere from a couple months to as much as 3 years, occasionally more, not just 18 months. 18 months may be normal for you. But it varies from person to person. At any rate, after the limmerance wears off if two people are not bonded by what we call "love" then 2 people tend to go thier separate ways. Because thier is nothing to keep them attracted to eachother anymore.
That's how long the average cohabitation lasts, and I would say it's because people who move in together are usually less picky with who they date and only trying that person out.
Not sure about the 18 month mark, but there is a long known statistic that the 7 year mark is a common place for marriages/relationships to end and for people to cheat. It is known as the "7 year itch."
In fact the average length of a marriage in America is 7 to 8 years.
This occurs because most relationships are based on lust, desire, filling of a void and ego. Once the lust fades, or the ego's needs change, they need to find another fantasy to fill the void with and will rinse and repeat...
chemicals wear off and dealign with a real human, discovery of difficulties of communication and working with a different brain.
If you live with the person that's about how long it takes to truly get yo kmow someone inside and out, the good and the bad everything and its about the time the infatuation the uforic feeling when you first fall in love with someone wears off
Relationships can end at any point, and the reasons behind their dissolution vary greatly from couple to couple. The notion that relationships often end around the 18-month mark may stem from several factors, but it should be regarded as a general observation rather than an absolute rule.
Reading these comments and so many haven’t had a long term relationship yet give advice (which is typically unhelpful) on those that are. It explains a lot on this site I think.
No that number is shorter, most relationships last a few months. Because you don't count the ones that only last a date or two.
Cus no one really has genuine interest in anyone. They have an interest in trying to make someone else have an interest in themselves. As soon as one party doesn't care any more its detined to fail.
Cause the average man and the average woman have their healthy relationship values completely f'd up. Just hoeing around and commitment issues.
Where did you get that number from? Everyone I know have been in relationships for many years.
hey, could be worse. could end at the 7 year mark and all of that was for absolutely fucking nothing.
The ones where the people say they'll be together forever do
I don't know cause my average ain't 18 months I guess
Not true.
Mine lasted 3 years and 5 months. 😇
