Hypergamy tends to be a female trait. Lookswise as well. The thing is, a woman judges a bunch of stuff most men don't really give a shit about. Education, money, status... so if that man excels in a different department, there is a good chance a female will overlook the looks department to some extent.

A woman telling a man about her education, money, and status is like, "Uh huh, can you shake dat azz tho?" If not, he's probably just looking for a place to stay.

Tbh, I'm stoked every time I meet a woman who enjoys talking about the dumb geek stuff I'm into. Or can hold a conversation about stuff I don't know. Learning stuff is a lot more fun than celebrity gossip.

@GreatBigCircles I think both males and females value intelligence or being emotionally stable... especially in considering a relationship just for the sake of love and not just the sex.

Intelligence doesn't necessarily come with a degree though... and the expected money that degree is supposed to make. That's the point I'm trying to make... for many women, it's all boiling down to money they hope to get to spend. It seems so damn important, they'll overlook the looks for it. Especially if a woman has put herself in a "man-shopping" status.

Organically though you're right, it's more complicated than just the base urges. We are men though... if we were looking at an ugly cow saying how ugly she is, are we really going to change our minds just because someone tells us her Dad is rich and gives her tons of money? ... we would if we needed a place to stay but otherwise, that's still an ugly cow of a woman.

Looks wise? I think men (as a general rule) put more value on a beautiful woman more than most women put value a handsome man. (Not just men, but society in general, I suppose). On my best day I’m nowhere near as attractive as my wife is. She’s a real beauty but what we each were looking for in the relationship meant we assigned a different worth to attractiveness.

Well plenty of women also date up financially, social status, etc. But not all.

I think some people are superficial that on them when they find someone who also is. But most people want a genuine connection unless they’re in the dark personalities.
