Is it wrong to ask to split the bill on a first date?

Not at all. It actually should be expected in my opinion. I never expect to have someone pay for me on a first date. I always am prepared to pay my way. After that sometimes we treat each other if things are going well. It usually evens out on its own over time. The more important part about a first date is the experience of getting to know the person. Paying for my dinner and drinks is inconsequential in the scheme of a first date.

I don't take that the wrong way. Dinner isn't expensive and minor cost for a first date. Just split to be fair.
