Do you ask someone out but then make it clear that you aren't paying for them? That would indicate that you are either a cheep skate, a money grubber,

Do you take them out but then tell then that you want to split the bill? Most women will be fine with that, but they will feel like either you aren't a gentleman or didn't appreciate their company.

What's the problem with paying for a date? Can't you afford it? Are you afraid that women are gold diggers?

It doesn't look good but on the other hand you can't expect that you can buy a girl for a meal, there is the other side of the coin. I see your point but sometimes I also feel like guys think that if they pay for a woman at a restaurant or a cafe, she owes them something. If it's your first date with someone and they don't want to go for another one for some reason, you can't blame them. You can also split the bill. I thought women are more into paying for themselves these days.
