1.3K opinions shared on Dating topic. Because women like to buy things more than men. Businesses know this which is why they will make things for women cost more than things for men, and why women's clothes and shoe sections in malls and stores are twice as large as the ones for men, because they know women want to buy and will buy, and the more businesses have to offer them, the more money they get from women's purses.
This also ties in with women being more visual and caring about appearance much more than men. Women tie what they wear/how they dress/hair/makeup/etc. to a care for appearance and link these things with self-worth, so they are more inclined to spend on these things than men are. And don't forget that women need to display themselves on social media 5x times more than men, and they want to look good for that.
Women also tend to have more credit cards than men and most years they have more credit debt than men, although right now men have the credit card debt while women have more student loan debts.

+1 yResearch dopamine because it has much to do with it.
1. Because women generally live in the 'now'. They want short-term excitement and they get that from shopping. This leads to them buying more and more and more just to get those shots at dopamine. So buying that new outfit, accessory or gadget gives them that small dose of excitement, even though if you pay close attention, most of the things they buy do not get used or get used just a few times before they dust away in the closet or on a shelf. So what she feels in that moment will dictate her decisions. That is why whenever you walk in a mall, the women's section is 99% of the time on the ground floor. It is so women would see and walk in much easier. Whereas men, who generally buy less, have to go up the escalator to get to their department. Corporations KNOW this and take advantage.
Whereas men generally buy things whenever they actually need it and plan for long-term goals.
2. Women are in constant competition with one another and to get ahead of the game, she keeps on buying new stuff. Buying that new fancy gadget or outfit would elevate her status in the eyes of other women. A woman who wears the same outfits often gets mocked or looked down on. Respect to the women who couldn't give a rat's ass and do not mind use the same outfits for years on end.

+1 yDo women actually spend more than men do though? Cuz I know plenty of guys who spend a lot more than a shopaholic woman.
Anyways, when it comes to buying BASIC NEEDS, women just have more things to spend on than men do. From period products to undergarments (especially if you're under band size 32 and/or over a DD cup size) things that are needed in a woman's life for support as she walks through the world is pricey enough. Socially speaking we have to own a greater variety of clothing and accessories because dress codes vary more for women depending on the occasion, guys can wear the same thing to a lot more places than women can, and I personally find that the only way for women to be able to have the same versatility is to have a more masculine wardrobe, like wearing more pants etc. Women's skin, hair and beauty products cost more than men's (especially given that most women have longer hair that they have to maintain and have societal expectations to do things like remove body hair, have painted nails, makeup at work etc), women's haircuts cost more in the salon...
... do you want me to continue?

@CubsterShura Yes women spend much more than men woman make up approximately 70% of all consumer debt in America.
- +1 y
@Vegasrunner in America. Also the country with a wage gap by gender, unpaid maternity leaves and stricter beauty standards... Why are you shocked
- +1 y
Didn't realize this until I moved to Canada myself how freaking expensive it is to be a woman here. 80 dollars for cutting one strand of hair in the salons jeez.
- +1 y
@CubsterShura The "wage gap" has been debunked multiple times. The FMLA act makes it illegal to have unpaid maternity leave in America and "stricter beauty standards" is subjective and isn't a tangible thing. There's no law requiring women to adhere to beauty standards its there own vanity and insecurities that lead them to doing that.
- +1 y
@CubsterShura Lol, you are aware that a good black barber charges upwards of $100 for a haircut? I personally get two a month and still manage to stay out of debt so that's not an excuse for women.
- +1 y
@Vegasrunner good barber charges $100 a month? Lol stop lying I have male friends and a boyfriend too and they tell me how much their haircuts cost. I don't disbelieve that there are barbers who charge that much but that's not what the average guy pays for a haircut.
- +1 y
@CubsterShura Lol, who said anything about being average? I said good barbers charge that much. If your male friends and boyfriend's aren't paying that much they are probably average.
- +1 y
@Vegasrunner their hairstyles are fine lol

Gotta love a man who feels the need to attack women who disagree with them and go as far as attacking the men in her life.
- +1 y
@CubsterShura They're black?
- +1 y
@CubsterShura Gotta love a women who feels any man sharing facts is "attacking" her.
- +1 y
@Vegasrunner calling random dudes you don't know "average" because they don't get $100 dollars haircut is not a "fact".
- +1 y
@CubsterShura You literally called them average."that's not what the average guy pays for haircuts" those are your words. That's check and mate
- +1 y
@Vegasrunner that's not check and mate that's you not understanding semantics lol
- +1 y
@CubsterShura The fact that you are now forced to explain your argument only validates my point. Thanks
- +1 y
@Vegasrunner forced to explain validates your point? What point lol only shows your own lack of understanding
- +1 y
@CubsterShura When a message is unclear it is the fault ofvthe general. You started this conversation by crying about how expensive women's haircuts were only to be educated on how much black men's haircut cost (notice there was no sympathy for that but I digress) Then u tried to use false personal experiences as justification (skillfully avoiding the race part) in doing so you literally labeled those young men as average only to become emotionaly triggered once I agreed w/ the assesment of them. The fact that you're attempting now to back track validates my earlier statement about $100 haircuts. The reason you don't know this is because as you said you are only able to surround yourself w/ average men.
- +1 y
@Vegasrunner lmao okay whatever helps you sleep at night, accusing me of lying now. I wasn't "crying" about how expensive haircuts are, but simply stated that being a woman automatically means that the expenses for basic self-maintenance added with societal expectations of grooming are much higher than that of men. You are here to argue about haircuts because that's literally the only thing you could counter by disregarding ever else.
- +1 y
@CubsterShura I rarely sleep because sleep is the cousin of death. No one forces women to make those choices. If you believe women can't think for themselves that is another discussion. Haircuts was simply one example, however because it destroyed your argument your forced to try to find something to distract from the fact that you're fundamentally incorrect.
- +1 y
@Vegasrunner lol dear your thoughts aren't that fundamental
- +1 y
@CubsterShura I appreciate you regurgitating what I say after I say it, as at least it shows that you have the ability to be properly trained.

+1 ySpend more money on what? This is too broad of a generalization.
I'd say men spend more money than women because they make more money than women. And they spend more on big-ticket items, such as fancy cars, motorcycles, boats, sky diving, scuba diving, airplanes, deep-sea fishing trips, guns, the shooting range, hunting and fishing, adventure sports, adventure travel, a home auto shop or carpentry shop, tools, lawn equipment, musical instruments, gaming equipment.
Though some women use some of the former, they are fewer. And women might spend more on clothes and accessories. This can add up if you're using designer labels. But few collections cost as much as a backhoe or riding mower.
Women invest in soft items that are ephemeral in nature: fashion, and men in hard ones that last longer, in general.
I suppose either could dump a lot of money down either of those holes. But if you have less money, you're going to buy less.

+1 yIt's in the Gene's. Women have two X chromosomes while Men have an X and a Y. The "spending gene" is in the part of the X that isn't in the Y. Two spending genes in women is more than the one in men. Hence, women spend more.

+1 yA very simple example: bras.
Women have boobs (well, many do). Bras can be reasonably priced, but well made and fitted ones which reduce pain and lower risks of health issues are $50 minimum.
Men don't even have the anatomy to fill that out. Fancy underwear can be $40 a pair, but so are women's undies.
Add menstruation, the fact women's clothing is often made of less durable material, and the social pressure for women to dress in more complex ways than men (fortunately this is lessening in effect), and you've got a storm of factors.
Add to this the fact women's medical science is lagging behind in data compared to men's medical science and you've got a recipe for even more inequality.22 Reply- +1 y

+1 yBecause we are more emotional. I made a pretty decent amount of money in my previous city, cause I worked like 2 full time and 1 part-time job. I could put my finger on anything and have it, so I wasted my money away on things I didn’t necessarily need, but I bought out of emotions. Most of them I gave away for free, when I was moving to Shanghai.
Now I wonder, if I kept some of that money I could easily buy a house in Georgia. Here I only have one job and my salary is twice less than 1 month ago, now I appreciate what I had and scold myself for being silly.
But it’s okay. I’ll not waste any more money, have learned a lesson many times.
00 Reply I once asked a person I know what the most valuable freight carried on the roads of the US. I thought he might have said Electronics, but I was wrong. He said by far it was makeup. I understand this industry is nearing 100 BILLION in sales. Take a look sometime in the cosmetics areas of stores at those prices. My girlfriend does not use a lot of makeup, still what she does use is expensive. My girlfriend is an Attorney. This means she spends a lot of money on professional-looking clothes and shoes. Try coming into court looking like a slouch and see how long it takes for the Judge to warn you!
00 ReplyHaving spent years in sales I can tell you that most purchases are emotional based. If you're buying a car based on need, you would purchase a basic economical vehical based on value. But most people will up their budget because a particular vehicle makes them feel better about themselves. Once you decide on a vehicle, most men will set his budget and try to stay below that. A smart salesman will quickly find a vehicle slightly below that and close the deal as quickly as possible. When trying to sell a woman a car, they will find a vehicle close to their budget and at the last minute propose a vehicle for only $20 more a month with heated seats, steering wheel and a backup camera. Then offer extended warranty for only $15 per month more for the peace of mind knowing that their aren't responsible for those expensive repairs. Incremental emotional addons are much easier sells to a woman.

+1 yIt's a good question and I'm not sure of the answer. But it's definitely true that they do... at least a larger percentage of their available money that is. One thing is that there are more demands on their appearance. So they spend more on clothes, makeup, cosmetic surgery and such. They are under much more pressure than men to look good all the time. That costs money. But I think it goes deeper than that. I'm not sure what the psychology is.
Back in the day the men earned it and the women spent it. So I might have been tempted to say that they spend more because they aren't the ones who have to earn it. Not sure how much that theory holds water now that most of them have their own jobs.

+1 yBras, undies, pads, tampons, and princess cups. Also somethings marketed towards women are more expensive than when it’s marketed towards men. For example: jeans for men are usually within a range of $15-$20 (from what I’ve seen but I could be wrong). Jeans for women usually range between $15-$45.
14 Reply- +1 y

It’s called the “pink tax”, take a razor for a man, make it pink and “feminine” then sell it for 20/30% more.
it is def not all woman, the only thing i have spent money on is buying and paying off my first home. i been budgeting since i was kid, was never into shopping.
so i have no idea why some woman spend more, i see plenty of males spending like crazy as well. these days i think its a universal addiction a way to get a temporary high
00 ReplyI tend to spoil on others more than I spend on myself. Unless I'm having a Debbie downer moment then I'll go grocery shopping for the expensive luxury foods as a treat or hop on Temu and buy tons of cheap foreign crap for my car or house that I really don't need. I actually installed $6 led start up lights on my SUV and my kids car the other day. Kind of proud of myself for that one.

+1 yBecause being a woman is more expensive. Pink tax is a thing. Women's clothing is generally more expensive, there is also the added cost of bras, hair ties, make-up (which is required or expected at some jobs), hair brushes, sanitary products and probably a few more things that the average man doesn't need.
00 Reply - 4.5K opinions shared on Dating topic.
+1 yHard to say. Women have more personal expenses. My office manager, for example, has far more business attire than I, the owner, have, because I can get away with the same five or six suits while if she wears the same outfit more than once per month people notice. And the following meme, although slightly exaggerated, hits upon another area where women generally spend more.

+1 yNot all of us do, some of us quite tight when it comes to parting with our money, however next time you're in a shop check out the price difference of something like a hoodie for example, you will see men's are usually much cheaper than women's.
01 Reply- +1 y
I buy clothes for women and this is true. Another thing is women's clothes are often of poor quality as well. It's more about fashion and the flimsy materials are often terrible, but she's only going to wear it a couple times.
Men's clothes are built to last, or men won't buy them.
Anonymous(18-24)+1 yBecause they're the primary target audience of corporations. It's why Ray Rice never played in the NFL again, and why 90 percent of corporations go OUT OF THEIR WAY to cater to women's movement groups. To take in the cash. They're targeted more, so they spend more. The fastest growing segment of NFL fans? Women. Women are the primary targets of marketing in the U. S.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yMultiple reasons, but the two biggest are that women tend to be more materialistic than men, and women tend to be spending the money while the men are earning it. I don't mean that in a negative way, it's just that women tend to do the shopping more than men.
