The only way I wouldn't fire you is if you're a great employee and you have a 100% believable excuse. No employer needs the headache of not knowing when people are going to show up for work.

Contrary to what @Staximus said, most employees are "at will". You can be terminated for anything or nothing.

Unless you're union, they can terminate you. I suggest making it so they don't want to.

California is an "employment at will" state, but they can't fire you for not showing up when you're not scheduled. Pretty sure that's against labor laws in most states

Even if you're not scheduled, go in the next time you know your boss will be there and talk it through.

@Staximus "at will" means exactly what it sounds like. They can terminate and you can quit for any reason or no reason at all. Obviously, there are exceptions for example if there's a contract.

If you were not scheduled for work, they cannot fire you for "no call no show". If you were scheduled to work, you may be fired. If they changed the schedule in the last couple days without notifying you, they might not be able to fire you either.

Why would you not check the schedule? I assume you have different shifts each week. Seems rather unprofessional not to check when you're working. Do they send schedule to you or just post on a wall in workplace?
