Woukd you go into work tomorrow or not?

I’ve not made up my mind and am liable to go either way. I’m a custodian at a college. There are no classes tomorrow. We still work, though, which is fine, but I texted my boss to see if I can come in early. He said dress warm we will be shoveling snow and laying salt. My job does not pertain to outside and we even have maintenance men who know the yard during the summer, so why is snow my responsibility? This irks me cause it isn’t in my job description. Also, I live about 30 minutes away and it is snowing a ton and supposed to through the night and into tomorrow. I have time off I could take. What would you do?

I worked at a college too. They closed the college any time it snowed but the facilities guys would still have to come in and plow the parking lots and clear the snow off the quad.

The boss of facilities was always looking for people to come in and help for some extra money. One of the techs in my department used to do it.

Shit if there was extra money involved I’d be all over it. We have people specifically for maintaining outside, that’s why I’m like why do I randomly have to do their job on this occasion

It is all about getting th place ready to, open the next day. They do not want people falling down and suing the place.

Only if I had a convincing excuse, otherwise I think I would just powerhouse through the day and get it over with. If something like that does happen, I would most CERTAINLY go Pokémon card shopping to reward myself for doing some random bullsh*t that I didn’t sign up to do.

It might come under 'any other duties as part of the grade' or similar. However your boss should see if the council will send someone to grit the outside areas.

Do I refuse to do things out side of that description? No, not usually, but I do draw the lines at some things.
