Guys, Guy I met backpacking says that he will meet me in Europe but also wants to play it by ear?

I’m backpacking right now and met a really great guy one night. We hit it off super well and ended up having 3 dates, but unfortunately I am leaving for Paris today and we had our final date yesterday. I do have some small feelings for this guy and I thought he did as well, he even switched shifts with someone at work so he could have my last day free. I asked him eventually what was going on between us and he said he wasn’t sure but he’s enjoyed spending time with me. I said that I wanted to see him in Paris but he said that he wasn’t able to at the time because of a new job he started and that he can’t take time off right now. He then said when he is in Europe he will definitely come see me. He then mentioned how he would think I would get swept off my feet in Paris and that I would forget about him, but I told him that would not be true. We said our goodbyes and he said he wanted to keep in contact with me. A little unsatisfied with the conversation, I said that for now we should be just friends, and he said he wanted to play it by ear. I’m just really confused what to make of all this, can anyone clarify?

It's a chance encounter, so I wouldn't get too excited. Keep in touch, though, and who knows what might happen?

Why don’t you settle for a return trip back to that place before you come back to America or your country wherever you’re living. I’m curious where does a backpacker stay at the end of the night in the woods at a park a motel or hotel or campground with a tent?
