Girls, How important is it for your mom to like the guy your dating?

Throughout my life it was very important because my mom is one of the best people in the world. Always a good balance of good sense, intelligence, humour, and she was beautiful inside and out. She was incredibly open with everyone, giving people a chance, but at the same time if she could sniff out trouble, she was always right.

I was the kind of girl who brought guys home from all backgrounds, colours, religions, ages, and she was puzzled by me that I didn't exactly have a type, but she was open to getting to know whoever I was with, and learning more about them. That said, she was able to properly sense if any were not good for me.

Because my mom was so important to me, and she had so much goodness about her, I had to wonder why any boyfriend in my past had a problem with her, and then I realized why -- they were threatened by her. One guy was a narcissist who tried plotting to get her away from me, and another was an alcoholic who was very aware of his problem and knew my mom would try to protect me from that.

So yes, anytime I had met anyone, I'd get my mom's opinion, and go from there. Always, she had it right. When she met my husband, even when we were just dating and we hadn't yet lived together, she told me he was the best one yet, and she was right. :)

I think it is really important that both my parents like who I am dating. If they don't it just makes things harder because if it becomes a serious relationship over a long period of time I am going to need everyone to be able to get along at family functions like holidays and stuff. So yeah it is important. I have personally not had to deal with them not liking someone I dated. They liked all my previous boyfriends and one girlfriend. They like the girl I am dating now so that is good. My dad is actually tougher to please than my mom is. She is much easier going.

It matters personality wise for her to like his personality and to think he's a good man. But it doesn't matter physically. Like right now I'm dating a blonde guy and my mom had always hated blonde guys. She does not find them attractive at all. However that doesn't matter to me because I find blonde guys attractive. It's what I want, not what she wants. Which honestly it annoys me that she is so picky. Plus it's weird, I don't need her to find him attractive. Like I'm the one that's dating him I'm the one that needs to find him attractive. So yeah.

I have a frienemy relationship with my mom. It's more important he gets along with my dad and he does.

My mom is a bit of a puppet master and I am an individual. So, although I love her dearly, she has been a thorn in my side quite often.

My father, on the other hand, had a special relationship with me, as the youngest, and if you don't get along with him, that's a deal-breaker. But he gets along with everyone, so it's rarely an issue.

Not that important, I keep my dating life separate from my relationship with my parents. It would be different if the relationship was series enough to lead to marriage but until that point, I see no reason to bring my parent's opinions into things.
