If you are thinking in terms of a LTR, I think it is v. important. If you are just dating and don't have a lot of expectations about the future I prob. would not even make an effort to introduce them though it might happen if there was an event where it would be weird to not bring him. In my case I have been with the same guy for four years, my parents love him which is v. important to me.
