What does "open to children" mean on dating apps?

I do not want kids, and I stated it on my profile. I've talked to guys who put "open to children" on their profiles, but then said that they wanted children.

How is that? Didn't they lie on their answer then? Shouldn't they be putting down "want children" instead of "open to children"?

I thought "open to children" means people would be fine with either having kids, or not having kids?

It's possible to want kids but also understand it might not happen.

I agree with you. Saying their open to kids means they could take them or leave them. Very different from saying you want to have kids.

Thank you! This one guy texted me after matching with me, that we're looking for the same things except I do not want children and he does. I looked at his profile and thought he put "open to children." 🤷🏻‍♀️
