Is it OK to spend an hour a week with an exclusive date?

I am in a long distance relationship and can see him every few months.

rather than talking everyday, I’ve said we can talk and have quality time once a week at the same day and time for an hour. I made sure the day and time worked for both of us.

he is saying it’s an unreasonable request that we can’t just talk whenever, but I don’t think it is. There is no reason we would ever need to, and maybe he would start to appreciate the time we have together, if I’m not always available to talk as I have been so far.

You sound controlling and not really invested in the relationship. You say, "There is no reason we would ever need to" so apparently you don't understand that people in relationships want to talk at various times and certainly more than once a week.

At present, my fiancee is in China while I am still here in the US, and she calls me every day. Not because of having a rule on that subject, but because she WANTS to talk to me and she knows that I WANT to talk to her.

I believe that such a relationship is doomed and will fail on the long run. Why?

Because, mainly men are not good to be in control with their testosterone and will want more than just a one hour phone call a week with the girlfriend. Also, you must realize that at age 18, men are not really faithful to a long distance relationship that they see 3 or 4 times a year.

You may have faith in him but it would be illusory to think that he is not looking at other women and perhaps even more.

It is time to wake up and realize that your relationship cannot work under those conditions.

i think it sounds fine. but also you have to realize that while the time may work in general things may come up. at the same time i don't think it's really unreasonable. when you are in long distance situations it can be necessary to define and carve out time to be one on one with each other

is it necessary to make a set time once a week as opposed to perhaps just finding time to chat on the phone? do you find that without a defined time you guys don't spend quality time one on one with each other over the phone or chat?

One of the things couples do is to demonstrate faithfulness to each other. It is called mate guarding. Girls do it, guys do it. It is an essential step in a relationship.

In a long distance relationship you have to communicate regularly any chance you get. Both my wife and I have spent time apart for long periods of time and whenever it happens we spend hours a day talking morning afternoon and evening sometimes even night. If the relationship matters both will WANT to communicate regularly and as often as possible

Well personally I saw my girlfriend once a week too even though she was close and sometimes it was short a d other times it was longer but the point is that how one uses that time yo develop and deepen a bond is crucial for the relationship!!

I think you're both half-right. I think your plan to have 1 dedicated hour is a really good idea.
However, I think it's a little unreasonable to say that you will NEVER talk to him outside of those times.
