I think the reason is that guys portray skinny girls as healthy. Plus it´s the current fashion ideal so most girls try to be skinny anyways. So guys not knowing what is healthy follow the trends they are confronted with. Like guys see all those fashion images of calzedonia and what ever too thinking that´s the norm they should look for.

Guys usually just like fit girls. They can be thin, average, athletic or a bit curvy, just as long as they are fit and don't have too much extra fat.

Both girls and guys insist on some type of preference that is unfair or "hurtful" to someone. Preferences are often out of your control, so no point to overthink about it. It's fine someone doesn't like you at the end of the day. Go after someone who does.
