+1 yI think a kid should be at least 16 before they date and should only be allowed to date somebody the same age give or take 12 months. I also think that if I had a kid and they dated, I would pay for them to talk to a therapist during the entire relationship cause young people might not be strong enough to handle rejection and I’ve heard of people attempting or committing suicide after getting rejected once or multiple times in dating because they did not have enough experience to shrug off rejection yet.

+1 yMiddle school is too early to date. It's not too young though to start interacting with teh opposite sex... learning about boys and girls. For example, have coed birthday parties, school dances, parent-supervised movies.

+1 yPerfect time to begin educating them. Especially before high school.
Chaperoning dates is the responsible thing to do. Young men must begin building their confidence at this age and learn how to be social. How to recognize when a girl is interested in him. If he doesn’t learn this at a reasonable age, it could make high school and college more difficult. Educate them on the signs of attraction. Encourage them to seek out a girlfriend/boyfriend.
Don’t let your male offspring sit around playing video games, hiding behind a screen slowly becoming antisocial. Get them involved in a sport or any social activity do this for your daughter as well. If they begin showing antisocial behavior during their early teens, get them help. Don’t be overprotective, overbearing and only protect them from the things that could cause them harm or possibly becoming parents too soon.
Start preparing them to handle what life will throw at them. If they don’t do well with their academics, don’t force the issue. Let them be kids, guide them into adulthood. If need be, let them experience the justice system early.
Once that peer pressure begins, a parent needs to begin having an influence. What better time for the both of you to begin learning how to navigate the troubled seas ahead.
I speak from experience.11 ReplyI don't think there's an age where it's too young to date. They can be too young for sex, but sex isn't dating. Dating does not have to be sexual. My children have been allowed to date at any age.
My daughter's been dating since she was in kindergarten. She's turning 17 in 2 weeks, and she is with a boy who she loves and he and his family love her as well.
My son had one girlfriend around the first grade, but she moved a year later and it broke his little heart. He's 15 now and has not met another girl he's liked or wanted to date since.
Both children are well behaved and have not done anything inappropriate.20 Reply1.1K opinions shared on Dating topic. Hmm… I don’t have an absolute opinion on if they should or shouldn’t. We dated in middle school, but it was more of passing notes, awkwardly standing next to each other then running away, and a quick thigh squeeze under the lunchroom table.
Now I guess it’s common that middle schoolers are getting pregnant. I think dating is fine, but I wouldn’t want my nieces to be sexually actively. They made us take sex ed in 8th grade and health (briefly went over STD’s) in 7th. Maybe switch sex ed to 7th grade instead?

+1 yI think they can if they want to. I don't have a problem with it. If you start telling your kid they can't date until XYZ age then they will just do it behind your back. I would rather know about who my (future) child is dating and be able to help them through the inevitable heartbreak and confusing feelings that comes along with dating than have them feel like they can't come to me for help if something terrible happens.
11 Reply I guess it depends on what you consider "dating". I remember a few friends were dating (some people called it "going steady") in elementary school, maybe around 3rd grade. I think they just had dinner at each other's place, went to movies, shopping etc. This seems acceptable.
If you're referring to sex, then it probably isn't a good idea. But I know that a lot of people have their first experiences in middle school.10 Reply
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yLet’s just keep it 💯 anything for two people (male and female) to get serious should be 18. Girls shouldn’t be dating when they are 15, 16, 17. Parents should enforce that rule. Unfortunately, girls tend to have stupid friends who are girls and provide dumb advice and input on what she should do. Girls want to rebel once they start developing bigger breasts, and they have a “figure” where guys start going gaga 🤤 over them. But I’m old school so the approach in life is after 18, the mindset should be finishing school then early 20s start testing the waters on marrying someone one day and settling down when you know you’re mature enough to handle marriage/responsibilities.

+1 yToo early.
I mean they'll have crushes and be boyfriend, girlfriend while at school but to actually date? No. The parents should not let the kids date that young, to go out alone into public places on "dates".
I'd say 16.

+1 yDating is just meeting outside the school. Maybe going for ice cream, McDonald's or to the cinema. What's wrong with that?

- +1 y
Lol, you haven't defenitly dated in middle school 😀
- +1 y
@Light_beam I did :D and of course, we had people who were doing all you mentioned. But it was minority.
- +1 y
Well, now it is the majority.. so imagine all the risks that come with kids doing all that !
- +1 y
@Light_beam I'm very curious how you want to stop kids from doing it? If you ban dating they will find another name :D
Wouldn't education be a better solution? - +1 y
Oh ban? That is a huge challenge.. but at least you discourage it.. and sure educate them about the hazards !
Can i pm you? - +1 y
@Light_beam sure

+1 yWell, my third cousin who is like a Sister to me, my late Mother had custody of her. My Mom got her put on birth control age 14 because that is when she started dating, but she didn't settle down with a guy until late in her 30s. She always like dating guys who had a bad side to them. This guys she with seems to be down to earth and her one child is to him.

+1 yIf that’s what it takes for them to realize they don’t know what they’re doing then fine, sure. Literally the equivalent of a stray cat or dog looking both sides on the street and choosing the cross just in time for them to be turned into apple sauce by the Amazon delivery truck coming to bestow onto me my Pokémon cards I patiently waited so long for.

+1 yThats a tough one. Generally I'd say no, but some kids do mature a lot sooner.
So I won't give it a hard no, but would still advise against it.10 Reply 892 opinions shared on Dating topic. We didn't actually "date" when we were teenagers. We hung out at people's houses and partied there. And yes, they were having sex in the bedrooms. But I didn't. I wasn't ready for that!

- +1 y
@strateguy632 how different?

+1 yYes I do but I can see the downside to that too. You definitely shouldn’t be having sex in middle school.
00 Reply 669 opinions shared on Dating topic. Definitely no. Heck I'd even go as "far" to say that don't date until your early twenties. Spend your teenage years getting to know yourself, boundaries, likes, dislikes. It will save you from a lot of pain.

teach laws of minors. an episode in south park really annoyed me when pc principle told minors IN SCHOOL as principle "always ask for consent", but that age even agreed doesn't count still rape and assault.

@strateguy632 very true, they are still kids and the old disciplines should be brought back and i don't care how others see it, ofc if they want their kids to become good people in the future with high morals and values...

@Djaay What @strateguy632 said. I've had friends get pregnant in middle school for parents allowing them to date at a young age. It's just better if they were a bit older so they can be more responsible and ready for something as big as intimacy in relationships. That to me doesn't start until around 16-17. And even then that's a young age to truly comprehend intimacy.
Anonymous(18-24)+1 yThat's way to young to be dating.
