How do I ask him to hangout?

We hung out a few days ago and he said he should come by during a weekend and see me (he lives 2 hours away) however, he would have to rent a place which I told him that I wouldn't mind driving there myself since he wouldn't have to rent a place and I could stay with him. He liked the idea and said, whenever you’re free let me know and you're welcome to come. How do I bring up the weekend that I’m free, let’s say new weekend? I feel like he put the ball in my court but it feels like I’m inviting myself over which I dont necessarily like. Even though I’m pretty sure he wants me over. Do I just ask him “do you have any plans for next weekend?” And see where it goes from there?

Here's what I would suggest:

Hey [his name], I've been looking at my calendar and I'm free next weekend if you are. No pressure either way - just thought I'd check in since we talked about me coming to visit. Let me know if you'd like some company! I can bring snacks for a movie night. Only if you're not busy of course. Talk to you soon!

I'd keep it casual and fun while still putting it out there that you're available. Mentioning snacks makes it seem low-key vs a "date." And saying no pressure gives him an easy out if he can't do it. Hopefully he says yes! But if not, at least you asked nicely without coming on too strong. Fingers crossed for a weekend visit from him! 🤞Keep me posted on what he says!
