I did a few straightforward things at the end/beginning of the year, and now I'm wondering if the guy I have a crush on won't be too overwhelmed?

I have a crush on a guy who is my instructor. Up until now I have kept my feelings in check in order not to make him feel uncomfortable, but as the year was coming to an end I had a time when I had had enough of being passive in my life, including my private life. So when my crush brought me a box of chocolates for my birthday and prepared some really pleasant wishes, I kissed him on the cheek, while saying 'goodbye'. Then I realized what I did and ran away, but not too fast. Afterward, I send him a text with customized birthday wishes (he had his birthday on New Year's) to which he replied almost immediately with 'Haha great. Thanks a lot' (he usually does not reply so quickly) and asked about our next class. Is there a chance I didn't ruin everything between us? Is it safe to assume he might actually like me a bit?

If it's a professional situation, that's not something you should be pushing. You could be jeopardizing his job, and that's not cool with anybody whether they are mutually interested or not.

My dad was a teacher, and he used to have students who'd "test their flirting skills" with him. He did not find it flattering so much as problematic and potentially career-threatening.

Wait until you are no longer in this professional situation, wait until after you graduate, etc. etc. maybe friend him on facebook AFTER graduation and if he wants to reciprocate he can?

I'd say it's quite unlikely you ruined anything. Especially since it sounds like he took the kiss well. If he's a normal guy, he probably didn't realize you liked him. Now that you've shown affection his focus may shift to you.

Yes, he is. At least he said so. Age does not matter here. Rights now I feel like a teenager do yes, a crush is the best word here.

I'm not with you on that. Age DOES matter, and when you're 33, you don't have crushes - those are indeed for teen-agers, which you are not. If you want to know the guy and he's single, make your move. If you don't and nothing happens, then you got what you put into it - nothing.

There probably is some truth in what you are saying. However, I did try to subtly show him that I like him (smiling, listening attentively, dropping a compliment once in a blue moon), but nothing happened. Plus, many people say that guys don't see hints that women are trying to convey, so I got frustrated and excited and this is the result.

Maybe he isn't picking up the hint, or maybe he did and he isn't interested in going further. So how do you know for sure? Do you keep doing the same thing over and over, or do you step it up and get a response one way or the other?

Here's my suggestion. The sexiest thing a woman has EVER said to me was along this same thing. I wasn't getting her hints ( I don't think that was the case), or she just did a full frontal assault because she wanted my reaction. She came up to me privately, put her pretty hand on my chest (I could smell her sweet perfume so she was close) and she looked me right in the eyes and said to me " so when are you finally going to ask me out". My heart jumped, I lost my breath and all I could say, because I wanted to, was " right now". And I did, and we dated for a long time, and she was great.
