"In love with their dog" dilemma! I've seen this topic pop up in forums before, and it's always a mix of opinions.
First things first, being a dog lover is usually seen as a positive trait, right? But like anything, it can go to an extreme. When someone is super into their dog, to the point where it affects their relationships, that's where the eyebrows start to raise.
If you're dating someone who treats their dog like royalty, and it doesn't interfere with your relationship, then it might be quirky but harmless. But if you're playing second fiddle to a four-legged furball, that's where you might have a problem. Like, if every date night has to include the dog, or if serious conversations always get interrupted by doggy needs, that can be a red flag.
Also, consider your own comfort level with pets. If you're more of a cat person or, dare I say, not into pets at all (gasp!), dating a hardcore dog lover might be a challenge.
I remember a buddy of mine dated this girl who was OBSESSED with her poodle. We're talking birthday parties for the dog, doggy spa days, the whole nine yards. My friend was cool with dogs, but this was a bit much for him. They had to have some serious talks about balancing their time and making sure he didn't feel like the third wheel in his own relationship.
So, is there a problem with dating women who are super into their dogs? It's not a straight yes or no. It really depends on the dynamics of the relationship, how the dog-love affects you, and whether you both can find a happy middle ground. If you're feeling left out or second-best, it's definitely worth a conversation.

+1 yThis can be a red flag. Every woman I’ve known who is in love with her dog almost always had other major underlining psychological problems.
That’s not to say I don’t dislike dogs. I was raised with a family dog and I miss her quite a bit. Lots of fond memories of that dog. I believe God put them on this earth to be companionship for humans. Most domesticated dogs can not survive on their own without human care. Of all animals there is something special to dogs when it comes to their loyalty to humans.
Anyway the red flag is when a woman looks at a dog as an equivalent relationship with a human. Dogs are great companions but they will NEVER replace a real human.
Here are some signs where this can be trouble:
- The woman is constantly posting photos of herswlf and her dog (including picture portraits). One or two photos are fine. But multiple photos are a bad sign.
- The woman openly says more than once that “she rather just have companionship with her dog”. It’s one thing if she says that in the nicest of a deeply angry/depressed mood. Quite another when she says it clear minded and often.
- The woman does nothing to discipline her dog for bad behavior (incessant barking or even worse biting). Dogs actually want (healthy) structure and discipline. When you deny the dog this it’s actually bad for it. It’s not “abusive” to train your dog properly to behave well.
- She inconveniences everybody and herself over her dog. For example she won’t leave the house long because she’s afraid of it being alone. Or she will bring her dog with her when she shouldn’t. I had a former maid that always brought her dog with her when she cleaned my place. The thing once crapped all over my back patio (and I didn’t notice until she left)
- She lets the dog sleep in her bed (actually really gross). It’s okay if the dog sleeps on the carpet NEXT to her bed. But actually in her bed is completely different story.
Anyway these women usually have some sort of deep seated problem and desire for human companionship and/or want children (yet “say” they don’t want children). And again a dog isn’t a bad creature at all to help with loniliness. I can understand that. If I didn’t travel so much I would likely get a dog myself.
But it’s when many people (usually women) who go way too far with this and it’s extremely unhealthy. Dogs aren’t not meant to replace humans. They will always have issues interpersonally if they attempt to do that.

+1 yOnly if the pet is spoiled like a baby. A pet is cute and all but it ain't no baby, it's a grown ass creature.
It needs boundaries and dicipline. You are it's master, teacher and friend, not it's mom, even if it feels like it.
- It should be able to know it's place at the bottom of the hierarchy.
- To not bark or make a fuss around strangers unless actually trained to guard.
- Know not yo climb on counters and steal food.
Otherwise, no. It's okay and I just love seeing their healthy, balanced, caring nature.
But, much like it is with kids that's already present in the family, they grow attached and it hurts to leave them.. even after getting over the girl, pets and kids still hurts to think about being left behind.
Tis'The way of life though. Tough shit, suck it up, bro.20 Reply

u +1 yOne potential problem is that she invites you to spend the night and it's you, her, and 80 lb Rover in a full size bed!

I have been there, done that, and eventually decided that she loved her dog more than she loved me. AMF!

+1 yNot at all. I'm a dog-lover myself. I dated several women who had dogs. Both she and the dog got along fine with me... at least until we broke up.

+1 yI'm not much of a pet person unless I was that desperate for company lol. Maybe I'm a little schizo that I don't really need huge socialising. I'd start to think eventually the dog or pet, it's like having a baby or kid that I didn't sign up to (e. g. single mom's) lol 😂

+1 yIf she mistreats them, such as beating them or putting costumes on them against their will, then yes. Otherwise, not at all, so long as she's fine having her own home for her and my pets' lifespans.

+1 yDog owners can be extremely entitled and insufferable. Especially women who own dogs and are obsessed with their "fur babies". I say this as someone who loves dogs and grew up on a farm.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yYeah, I am okay with it to a certain degree but was seeing so many women directly mouth-kissing, tongue-kissing their dogs. That's where I draw the line. Kissing on the far is still fine I guess.
