Do guys prefer if a lady asks them out?

I’m generally curious as I have a big crush on this one guy, seems like we like each other, but I haven’t seen him in a couple months. I know I’ll see him again and I have a funny feeling I’m going to be set up with him, which wouldn’t be a bad thing. I’d get nervous when it was just us. But how do you go about asking a guy out or do I just not ask him out and see what he does? I’m hoping to within the next couple months be training with him or someone over there.
