If you are on a date, and their phone rings, and they pick it up and proceed to just chit chat (it's not an emergency, it's not their work phone) with whomever is on the phone, is the date basically over for you?

Yeah I'd say the date is pretty much over if they did that. Like come on, you're meant to be focusing on each other, trying to get to know each other. Answering their phone and carrying on a chat is just rude.
Unless it was something really quick like cancelling other plans or letting someone know they'll be late. But a long conversation? Nah mate that's taking the piss. Shows they're not really interested in being there with you.
I'd probably finish my drink and make up an excuse to leave. Don't really see the point in staying if they can't even put their phone away for an hour. Like you made plans, the least they can do is be present and pay attention to ya, yeah? Not a good look if they're glued to their phone the whole time.
Lucky I haven't been on a date like that before! But I definitely wouldn't bother with a second date if they pulled that on the first.
Well I’d be sure to finish my meal first if it’s good. Then proceed to the “bathroom” to pay my part then split. Let the other person she’s talking to pay for her meal.
Yes, I wouldn’t mind if it’s an emergency or it’s work related, but if it’s just a friend or family member calling them to have a long casual conversation, then I’d be getting up and paying my share of the bill and then leaving.
