Is it normal for your boyfriend to forget your surname and birthday?

He says he forgets names and birthdays but if someone is that important to you that you actually wanna marry them , don't you try and know those kinds of things or does that happen

Surname seems extreme but I actually forgot my wife's birthday over and over in the first few years we were together. I got the month right but I could never remember the exact day.

By forgot, I mean forgetting the exact date when asked, not forgetting to throw her a party. I still threw a party because I had an electronic calendar on my smartphone that reminded me of these things in advance as well as mutual friends reminding me so that we could plan out her party and get her gifts.

I'm very absent-minded when it comes to remembering dates and things like that. For example, I still have to check my phone when people ask me my phone number.

Yes, I had it down on my calendar. Since I'm very absent-minded, I always record things on my calendar. I put people's pictures next to their names so that I remember who is who, since I can remember faces much better than names. I have my own way of compensating for my bad memory in this regard.

Cheers! I think it's a general defect I have. For example, I love history. It's one of my favorite subjects to study, and I can talk your ears off and write essays about historic events. Yet I can't tell you the precise date of the Battle of Agincourt if my life depended on it. I just remember that it occurred in the early 15th century. I have a genuine mental block when it comes to remembering numbers in particular.

Same, I had so much difficulty in classes like geography and history in high school. I'd use cue cards and memorize things for a test and then a week later, forget half of it. There was this song my teacher used that helped us remember the capital of South American countries, like "Guetemala, Guetemala, Tegucigalpa, Honduras, San Salvador, El Salvador [...]" and putting it in a song that way helped burn it into my memory. Yet I haven't found a way to do that with dates and things like phone numbers. :-D
