Why do jealous women agree to being the side chick?

Guy used to like me but is in an open relationship with his girlfriend now. Recently he met a girl that ended up as his side chick and even though we don’t talk she glances at me and acts catty. Why do jealous women enter open relationships if they can’t handle their feelings and know they will never be „the one“?
