Is it wrong to date someone who has previously approached my friend and thought she was attractive when doing so?

I met a guy and we started speaking. I added him on my socials. I really began to like him and he liked me too. He asked me out but before we went on a date he told me that he had noticed he had approached my friend in the past; he saw that we were friends from my socials and thought he should let me know. Me and my friend have grown to be very close. I asked him if he likes her and he said he was attracted to her at the time of asking for her number but they never spoke or dated. I just told him that’s it’s very awkward and that I don’t think I can date someone who tried to pursue such a close friend of mine. I then told my friend about it , she told me that she was completely fine with me continuing to date him and confirmed that they didn’t really chat after they met and swapped numbers. I had already ended things at that point. I felt uncomfortable at the time. Do you think I made a mistake? I haven’t met anyone like him before in my life. I reaaaaally like him so was debated to find out that he had liked my friend.
