+1 yThat's a tough question. I guess it would depend on whether the father is involved and whether they have a mature relationship and not drama-laden all the time.
If they get along still and just realize they weren't meant for each other, then I think it could be okay.
If there's drama about every little thing between them, then I tend to feel sorry for the kids but would be reluctant to get involved.
I live a pretty low key life, and I am sure I could teach the kids a lot of cool things, but I am not willing to get involved in some shit-show and upend my life.

+1 yI don’t have kids of my own, though I would like some at some point. Problem I would have with dating a single mother is the drama and laws that typically are involved. I haven’t heard of a guy dating a single mother that didn’t result in an unmitigated disaster in a very, very long time. Emotionally and financially I’ve seen it totally destroy guys. My friend is going through this right now. Between having to pay for child support for kids that aren’t even yours, to drama and domestic violence involving exes and baby daddies, to basically becoming a punching bag where you come dead last behind everyone else and are expected to sacrifice everything for a family that doesn’t respect you.

There are so many stepdads out there, surely that should answer your question before even needing to ask it? Plenty of men step up if they fall for a woman with kids, and vice versa plenty of women fall for men with kids

+1 yDefinitely. There’s no winning dating single mothers.
Either A, she prioritizes her kid (s) and never you, and you have to demean yourself to get any quality time out of the scenario or…
B, she prioritizes you and now you’re the greedy prick who is the reason her kids aren’t getting the devoted parent they need.
Be a spineless simp for nominal female attention, or be a greedy pig that helps to traumatize children. No good, self respecting man would do that.10 Reply
+1 yDepends on the woman. I married a woman with a daughter who was one when we met. She left her ex for cheating. He was so much not a part of her daughters life that I don’t even think they have spoken since she was one. (She’s in college now).
This woman was an absolute find and everything I was looking for in a woman. I absolutely knew I would probably not find her equal again and gaining a daughter (when I knew I wanted kids anyhow) was not an issue at all.10 ReplyIt would be, yeah. If a guy is in a serious relationship with a single mother, he's inevitably gonna be expected to be the kids' stepdad. It's not a dealbreaker for me personally since I do want kids, but it would still be a red flag. Single motherhood points to failed serious relationships or a hedonistic lifestyle.

+1 yI don't think there will come a time in my life where I don't want kids, so I don't think this will ever apply to me.
The fact that you are asking this likely implies you have kids of your own and don't want anymore seeing as you're only interested in guys that don't want kids. All I can say is while there are some who would be willing, I'll say it's definitely much less of a selection to work with.00 Reply
+1 yThere are a lot of men out there who do not want to raise another man’s kids. Who do not want to have to pay child support or alimony for another man’s children.

+1 yI cannot have children of my own. A widowed mother who is self-sufficient would be fine. A never married mother of four from different baby daddies who is on assistance would be a no fly zone. In between would depend upon the specifics.
20 Reply I do want kids of my own, but being a single mom is still a dealbreaker.

+1 yIf she’s a younger single mom that wants more kids yes, if I was dating a woman that was older that had kids but they were essentially grown up and she was definitely done having kids then that’s fine.
10 ReplyIf I'm looking something casual. Thing about dating single mom's is that everything revolves around their kids and the kids come first which makes dating them a lot of work.

I'm happy to hear that you will be staying out of single mothers lives because you would be a crappy person to be around someone's child.
You should probably go and get a vasectomy (if you aren't too stupid to know what that is) because you should never father even your own child if you have any.

+1 yHELL NO. In fact l will be dating on fairly soon.

It also depends on the woman. Sometimes you meet a single mom that wants to try and fix the wrong man. Her empathy becomes her vulnerability. One that is exploited. Some women marry a man, she is a good wife then after a while he starts showing his true colors, because verbally, emotionally and physically abusive and she makes the mistake of thinking gifting him with children will make him straighten up and fly right. But then those kids just worsen his mental state. She goes for the bad boy rather than a “compassionate alpha male”. Mistakes happen when a family oriented, young woman wants a family. Especially if she is extremely feminine. She looks for an alpha male to protect her. Only he turns out not to have compassion. He is just an asshole.
