What does it mean when the guy you're talking to let's "I love you" slip out but didn't mean to say it and apologizes?

Been talking in a romantic way, call each other baby and love, we've been intimate but haven't made the relationship official yet as were still in the getting to know each other stage, but both established were both only talking to each other exclusively. He walked me to my car and was saying Good Night and it accidentally slipped out. He apologized and I said it was okay, down played it all. I later messaged him asking if he truly felt that way or just like a general slip up. He said he didn't mean to say it, that it just slipped out but he did have feelings for me and wants to continue spending time together but didn't want to rush anything which I agree. Just curious if guys do say it by accident or there may be some truth to it and just didn't mean to say it yet? Need a guys perspective.

I’m in the same situation, I haven’t said it yet because I’m kind of waiting on her and it’s only 2 months , even though we’ve done everything together and intimacy , I’m not trying to see anyone else and she definitely isn’t but I don’t know what she will say if I say it first, if she says thanks instead of saying it back I will be hurt so I think we are both waiting for the other to say it first, we definitely have feelings for each other and really into each other but I feel like it would change the relationship somehow so that’s probably what he is afraid of by saying it too early

Some desperate guys will say I love you after 10 minutes, because they think it unlocks the sex door they desperately want to pass through. They will say it to 100 girls hoping someone will go for it and sleep with them.

Some guys will say it way too early, because they know women tend to play the field, and they want to let you know they are into exclusivity. Still kind of a bonehead move though.

Anytime I love you comes before...

• meeting your friends
• being approved by your pets
• meeting your bestie (s)

People say they love their dogs within 20 minutes. I don’t view love as a high calibre and forbidden term. The idea of romantic involvement comes second to the idea of duty and respect.

Something I have noticed about Americans especially, they hate saying I love you, as if its is the death-knell to all relationships which are hovering around the shall we or shan't we take it further!

It's happening more and more here in the UK too from what I see. Years ago though, it was just said without too much importance being placed on the consequence of it!

So what should it mean for your YOUR relationship? Well, the guy clearly has strong feelings for you. I don't think you should read anything into the retraction and instead go with the fact, he meant what he said when he told you he loved you!
