They do.
But it's a whole culture.
Not a quick fix.
You won't hop on an app drop a few selfies and start matching and dating.

Most useful: Tinder, Bumble, Hinge

You first need a solid profile: professionally taken pictures with good lighting and variety showing you living a cool and intersting lifestyle (you with a musical instrument. You with a dog. You walking on the streets looking very fashionable. You at the gym lifting with muscles showing. Etc...)

Then you need a non creepy bio:
Make it something light and and fun, maybe have a little "two truths one lie" or a "Q&A where the questions are funny and not serious"

Be careful with the information you display when asked about politics and religion and zodiac and such.
I wouldn't put my sign because many women will write me off just because of it.
Same way I wouldn't put strong political leanings or any religious at all.

Emphasize your height if it's 6'0 and above otherwise avoid flaunting it.

Keep in mind that dating apps work better in major cities with a larger set of population and once you get matches you need to work on your texting skills but that's too big of a topic on it's own.

Do not be afraid to iterate, if one profile is not working change it.

And you need to kill your ego for this to work:
Always remember, they're not rejection you they're rejecting their own idea of you. And that idea can be improved and changed.

I tried some in my late 20s and got a lot of matches. OKCupid even gave me a free lifetime boost for being a popular profile. I felt like a million bucks. I never attempted to date anyone because I was terrified. I forgot how to talk to women after my divorce, because she didn’t allow me to have any female friends or to talk to any other woman.

Fast forward to 2 months ago, I got on Hinge and CMB. On CMB, I had no luck. I got some likes from some very older and very conventionally unattractive women and that was it. Hinge was a lot more successful. I got multiple matches a day for a while. Most of them didn’t reply. The ones who did ended up wanting someone with higher social status. There was only one that finally agreed to a date and gave me her number. Then she kept getting cold so I just stopped texting her.

It’s not an understatement when they say the standards are high on dating apps. It’s all superficial surface level stuff. You aren’t actually meeting them initially so of course it is. They usually do not work for the average man. You need to be a 0.5%er. You need to be over 5’11”, making 6 figures, with a brag-able title like Engineer or Scientist, no roommates, and somewhat attractive.

They are also rigged because after the initial dopamine rush, it was almost like they adjusted my profile to be shown less. Then I paid for a boost and got more matches again.

It does help to make your profile aesthetically pleasing like pictures taken by a professional photographer. However I was able to get 2-5 matches a day with pure selfies and mirror pics because it was all I could do.

I do not recommend dating apps but the truth is that it worked quiet well for me and my Husband. We matched each other on Bumble. I've used tinder too but tinder is ghetto in my opinion.

It is mostly about looks, height, and income. Writing a detailed profile, or having a mostly blank one with very little effort doesn't matter.

My advice is first, make an opposite gender blank profile and search for people that are close to your qualities (height, income, race, etc.). Look at their profile descriptions, pictures, etc. Compare yourself. If you seem more appealing than MOST of them, (at least 80%, then make your own profile. If not, don't bother. Remember to delete the fake opposite gender blank profile afterwards so the site doesn't get filled with fake profiles more than it already is.

I haven't used any in years. All of them regardless of what they claim are geared towards hookups and short term flings, period. Even just the functionality of being able to "shop around" creates a culture of expendability, and an incentive to dump each other over petty differences rather than work through anything.

They "work" the way they're intended. It's like a slot machine for dopamine and ego boosters. Like a slot machine you can get lucky and get whatever it is you're looking for but I'm reality you'll probably get an empty surge of dopamine with matches you'll never meet.

Look for local based ones or those catering to specific groups. You'll narrow the field down and won't have as much competition as the big name sites. If you know people who found partners that way just ask them which site they found best.

Match worked for my wife and me, but that was some years ago. I have no idea if it's still useful. Even then it was a bit of a scam -- they will show you profiles of people who are not members.
