At what point does a man often start using pet names?

He started using them here and there 1 month later.

Now It’s been 5 months and he calls me “Baby” and “Love” almost all the time. Means anything?

It depends. Some guys like to use nicknames right away — that things out till they hit one you both like. Some hold off till they have a meaningful nickname to use. Some have one they’re workshopping and think of when they see you but they only share it with you once they know you well enough….


In your case, calling you “love” means nothing of the guy is British/Australian bc it’s just an expression. Anywhere else it’s meaningful.

Depends on respect level in your relationship. If he starts to tell you what you have to think and what you have to do, I would say he takes your for granted and those pet names is some kind of belittling.

A guy starts using pet names when he thinks you are his. Not b=necessarily that he owns you, but you and he have an understanding. Of course, it means he likes you.
