There was only one time when dating WEBSITES were worth anything... and that was in the time before touchscreen phones when the Internet was primarily populated by likeminded, introverted nerds... so the odds of people actually being able to pair off in a situation where they might otherwise be alone for life made it worthwhile. Dating websites were made for people who could not manage it consistently in other ways...

BUT... that drew the attention of people who did NOT need dating websites. Mostly guys who could get dates any day of the week... but simply saw a pool of exploitable nerdy girls as an opportunity to abuse for their own sake. And they did. They did to the extremes. The chads just started ruining everything for easy gratification.

And of course it had the inevitable consequence of women collectively putting their guards up, and the guys who needed the sites suddenly wondering why it wasn't working any more and lowering their standards... and the chads out there just ruining things more and more.

So by the time dating APPS came along, and the Internet was saturated with mundanes... the entire concept was long since garbage.

I think whether a person should or shouldn't should depend on their goals. If they're a down to earth person looking for long-term love? They should probably avoid dating apps as they could just present them with people that would waste their time. Especially if they're below a 7 in looks. But if they're the more shallow type and are looking for a quick hookup, then they're come to the right place. And it will happen faster for them if they're above a 7 in looks.

He joined about 8 of them and each one was taking about $99 a month, every month!! He didn't even know it was happening cause he never bothered to look at his bank statements.

But I saw it and told him about it. He went to the bank and it all got straightened out.

I've never had any benefits from dating apps. For example a lot of people on Tinder (or most dating websites I can think of) a lot of people are only looking for small-time flings and hookups. I found it more beneficial to go out and meet people.

People should stay away from parasocial relationships.

Dating apps are ok as a means to get some leads to have dates with people.

But substituting your entire life for a life at home playing games and texting on apps is something that needs to be looked at

That is up to the individual's comfort level. I don't believe dating apps are the best way to find people you're compatible with, but it also doesn't hurt to be open to the possibility of finding someone online when you're not out socializing.

The negative thing about dating apps is that many people that start using them tend to rely ONLY on them and not try to actively find people through socializing in person. There's balance in everything.

There is a stigma around online dating, rightly or wrongly. If you think it will be a tool you can use to increase your exposure to new women then I say why not. Don't rely on it entirely but it certainly couldn't hurt your chances of finding someone compatible.

They're generally scams / money pits for most people. But for a small % of users, they are worthwhile, especially if looking to meet someone from another country.

Using Bumble made me feel hideous, but using OkCupid set to foreign countries (Dominican Republic, Thailand, Brazil, etc.) has been a moderate confidence booster for a change. At least I'm kind of desirable *somewhere*.

But generally, yes, people should go outside and meet others in the real world.

Like meetup. Not like…well dating apps. I think the issue is people are swiping based on a profile instead of meeting people in person. Apps and online stuff is good if you meet potentials instead of judging by their profiles alone.
