Inserting yourself into a persons family life without knowing them well enough is a red flag on its own. You don’t know this guy enough to decide anything about his family life

I'd say it depends on why. If his mom was abusive, I can't blame him for cutting ties.

She was a total narcissist. But then when we would get into arguments he would called her up to help him yell at me like he’s talking to her again just ghosted her for a chunk of time. Red flags huh

That just sounds odd to me. You don't call up your mom that you haven't spoken to in years just to help yell at someone. It sounds to me like he was lying about not having spoken to her.
