My girlfriend is too clingy?

I've been dating my girlfriend for 3 years and living together for 15 months. She's very clingy, constantly calling and texting, and gets irritated if I don't respond quickly. She dislikes me spending time alone, seeing friends, or visiting my family, and she gets upset if I do anything without her. Her overbearing behavior makes me feel trapped and unable to have personal freedom, turning our home into a prison. Is this level of clinginess normal, or am I overreacting?

What’s “normal” is very subjective.
But to me, it sounds like she has some serious insecurities that she is projecting onto you and your relationship together. It may be a general insecurity in her relationships that she feels the constant need to be around her partner and not be alone - if you don’t want to spend time with her because you have other plans, she may be perceiving that you don’t want to be around her at all and feeling she’s not enough for you. It may be an insecurity with regards to fidelity - she may have been betrayed in previous relationships and doesn’t want you to “meet someone else” you “prefer” in the time you are not together and be unfaithful or leave her for someone else. It might be insecurity on her physical appearance - she doesn’t feel attractive enough and is consistently worried you’ll find someone “better” when you’re away from her.

It’s an unhealthy state of mind - I’ve been there and have suffered (still do) from all of this though I do not let it get the better of me or my relationships.

It could, of course, also be simply emotional immaturity.

If you are invested in this relationship and her, You need to talk about your feelings and how her behaviour is making you feel and try to understand her reasoning (if she even recognises why she’s doing this)

Try to communicate with her and put a stand on what you want and tell her that you want freedom to hangout with friends and family too. You can't be with her 24/7, or else it will end bad. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Id wonder if she does not feel secure and ifbyou are leading sufficiently and communicating enough to give security.


Of course that be a factor of her prior experiences that may be reflecting into your relationship. If its stressful then its yellow flsg and need to sort out if can handle this oerson emotionally.
