I normally would smile and say hi when they look at me right as we're approaching, unless I don't get a chance to, like if they greet each other first or start talking straight away walking up, etc, and also in some instances like it's a sketchy situation lol. But yeah I'd rarely introduce myself, I'd hope my partner introduces me, and if they didn't, I would most likely be very turned off or upset or annoyed
