Weird title, but let me explain...
I'm pansexual. I have always been pansexual. As a universal adapter, I don't really understand the specificity of being attracted to only one type of person.
For those of you who are attracted to only one gender... Why?
This isn't meant as a loaded question of any sort, I just legitimately don't get it.
First off, let me begin by saying that I think many people who identify as straight are not.
But that is just a hunch I have.
Therefore, I would rather not analyze that.
As for me, it is not that simple.
Personally, I am a demisexual which means that I can develop feelings of romantic and sexual attraction only if I get very close to someone and if I feel that we happen to click.
Of course it doesn't happen with all the people I get close to, in fact it is quite rare to happen, most people I happen to get close to, I solely see as friends and nothing more. So for me it rarely develops to attraction/romance even when I get close to someone, but in a few cases it just happens.
So far I have only experienced that feeling of attraction towards men.
However, if I happened to be attracted to a someone who would not be a man, I wouldn't be opposed to explore it.
But if so far in my almost 33 years hasn't happened, it probably means that it won't. However, you never know.

Well, first, @Account, I think this demisexual/demiromantic word is lacking a lot in the etymology department, extremely confusing. Second, on a more societal level, why the need to invent a complicated designation for what is a very common trait, taste, in personality? Labelling what is a common approach to romance not only adds confusion, it triggers the sentiment that people want to be labels on a bookshelf instead of people, this is moderately infuriating to spectate this lol

I'm well aware of what is demisexual, but we can discuss the definition, what I have in front of my eyes can be summed up as: a type of attraction that occurs after the development of an emotional bond.

As a straight person, I don't get why people can be attracted to multiple genders, so I get the question and get it doesn't mean anything malicious!
But honestly, I don't really have an answer. I've just never looked at a female and thought of them as anything sexual or that I'd enjoy doing anything sexual with.

I am heterosexual because, after questioning this aspect inside me a few times, I decided to trust my gut feelings. My guts feeling tell me that I desire all that makes a Woman's body, at the exclusion of what makes a Man's body. Sure, I could go on and on, considering the whys, the origins and... I understand what you mean with research, but we are not discussing on a website that have academic goals in nature, we are sharing opinions, observations, beliefs and such.
In this non-academic context, my opinion is not a thesis nor a study, my opinion is that what is called demisexual is commonly happening in my surroundings throughout my life, it is reasonable to say that, what I observed here, I can deem it common.

m Well something like 90% are straight, then you have bisexual, gay, lesbian, so as a pan you are a minority within a minority. For straight people there is zero attraction to our own gender, for the overwhelming majority of people it is how life is, for a gay guy, he only likes other guys, for a lesbian, they only like girls. Everyone is just how they are, hence you being a minority within a minority, looking out asking why. People are people.

This is the main reason. Because our feelings usually follow our actions, not the other way around.
for example, we feel good about obeying the law and enjoy watching justice served. If it weren't true judge Judy would be out of a job.
So we obey the law first. Then the feelings come.
We obey societal norms because they are normal. We don't feel any differently for having remained as we were born and expected to be.

Being pansexual actually has nothing at all to do with being unfaithful. It doesn't lead you to cheat any more or less than liking the color pink. Who you are attracted to has no bearing on how loyal you can be.
That being said, I also do happen to be polyamorous, so I still resemble your remark and it does still apply to me, just for different reasons. Just wanted to make sure you kept the terms straight.

Here's the think though, of we, as a species, were wired to be monogamous, then why is infidelity such a universal problem?
The only difference between me and most people is that I wear that on my sleeve instead of hiding it away on my heart. Instead of shaming myself and my body like most of us women do, I embrace it and live openly, with partners who do the same.

A little different, but I'm attracted to no genders. Sort of. I enjoy sex, and I love my husband, but I've never wanted to have sex with anyone for any deeper desire or attraction to them. I just think it's fun and I like making him happy. If he stopped liking sex I would be fine replacing it with different stuff we can do together instead.

Men have more testosterone, so they're more prone to be attracted to women. Women have more estrogen, so they're more likely to be attracted to men. The entire animal kingdom has a natural drive to reproduce and you can only do that with the opposite gender, so our brains and hormones are wired to be attracted to the opposite gender. If it were normal to be attracted to the same gender as well we would go extinct, the birth rate would never be high enough to replace the previous generation.

Well the biological purpose of affection is procreation. Our species would have died out already, if we had only same sex attraction for example. So simply by the logic that straight people procreate, that's why there's more of them.

Because nature. Heterosexuality is the natural state nature designed. Sex and sexual attraction is ultimately for the purpose of procreation, so it makes perfect sense. Same sex attraction is the oddity here.
