It's literally manipulating someone into thinking they like you, when you've actually just made them feel insecure, and like you need their approval.

The best away to avoid being negged is to develop a sense of confidence, to the point you don't need other people's approval, or random people's criticism doesn't affect you.

The truth is: does it matter if you're being negged? It doesn't. Just avoid people who are dicks.
