Would you date someone who was a drinker? I mean one who thinks a week without alcohol is a long time?

Many people like for instance to drink one or two glasses of wine with their meal, and they would indeed find a week without a long time, although no addiction symptoms would appear. No problem to date such a person for me. No problem either with someone enjoying a pint of beer in the evening while watching TV.

What I fear most is alcoholism, which is not at all the same way of consuming alcohol... On the one hand there are people who enjoy drinking alcohol, and on the other people who are addicted and drink because they are mentally dependent. The border between these two situations may sure sometimes be thin, but the truth is not just black or white.

I agree. Once you feel you cannot live without it, then it's a problem; or if people complain about your drinking because it has caused attention and that's all you seem to care about.

I'm not sure. I knew a high functioning alcoholic for a very long time. I never really accepted what a mess she was. In hindsight I see it now. But I think in the moment you just make excuses for them. In my mind I say, "no". But I hope I could resist liking her knowing how it would most assuredly end.

I mean she had to have alcohol before work and after work. Towards the end she was drink8ng at work. I mean I would consider someone who drinks to excess or drinks constantly to be a problem but someone who can't even wait till they're off there job shows complete lack of control. Butshe was able to function in her normal life. Unless you smelled it on her you wouldn't have known. But it was slowly destroying her life. That's what I mean by high functioning.

OK, thanks for explaining. She sounds like she's got a serious problem, but only she can decide to help herself. It's gotta affect her somehow. She may seem like she's functioning ok, but that's deceiving because she's reached a high tolerance level.

NO, been there done that it ruined my life.
To me, these people have no projects in life BUT DRINKING.
Don't get me wrong I love me a glass of wine on weekends, but I can easily go months without drinking...
But if someone sees a week TOO LONG then nope. Red flag
I would suggest to not paint these red flags green cuz I did it, and it ruined me.
The drinking will get worse eventually

I like wine too with a good dinner, but I couldn’t drink while on medication after surgery for about 3 months. I never had the urge. I can go without it permanently. But I like a cold beer in the hot summer or a nice red wine for steak.
