I am a little old fashioned I suppose. I really like feeling safe and protected by my man. The truth is that men are usually physically stronger and larger than women. I like to feel protected. It is a deal maker or breaker for me. I feel that some feminists can take their views of independence to extremes. What do you think?

Yes, there are extremist views in the spectrum that is feminism, specifically the misandrist draws a lot of attention, but that's just one part of the spectrum. In the spectrum of catholicism, there are extremist views who cannot tolerate a simple joke, for instance.
I totally want to protect my girl. I've been in a relationship with a militant, well, she liked to be protected. There was no problem. What she wouldn't like, and what I wouldn't do, is patronizing her, telling her what she should do, for instance.

Heterosexual women, including "independent women", who are turned on by masculinity, like feeling safe and protected by a man.
Some feminists can definitely take their views of independence to extremes, but they are in a minority. Those are the women who fear or resent men for some reason.
Having an education and career and being able to support oneself doesn't mean a woman is less feminine. It doesn't mean that she won't look up to a confident man who is bigger and stronger that her. I know that from experience.
I was going to post an opinion, then I saw this. Can't think of much else to add. Well said.
Power dynamics
I feel like it is ok to desire this, even in the modern age. I feel like it is the general "norm" to desire that, even if you don't admit it out loud.
I do not. I have lost my power to men too many times, so I learned how to defend myself physically. I don't experience what you do, but that's because I don't feel like a guy could defend me better than I could.
Of course it's ok to want to feel protected by and safe with your man, but only if he is trustworthy so you can feel safe being vulnerable with him. One of the negative points of feminism is that now we sometimes feel like we can't feel right about some of the things that are actually most beautiful in romantic relationships.

Anon, that's negative only when you consider feminism as a fixed ideology defining you. But feminism is the opposite of that, it is a force about self determination, a force wanting you, as a woman, to participate to the definition.
@Maybe_Maybe_not All of that is true, and so is what I said. Feminism has done a lot of good, especially in the distant past, but it has also done a lot of harm, especially in recent years. But regardless, feminism must be taken as a whole, and judged as a whole based on what it is today. Feminism is as feminism does, and in my opinion it has been doing more harm than good for at least the last 10 years.
You know, feminism isn't even clearly that identified, it encompasses so many implied ideas, and so many clichés. No one can honestly say what exactly is feminism. Feminism is so diverse

To be clear, I'm asking you to justify its existence in the US in 2024.
Feminism is a societal force aiming at, generally speaking, fair treatment for women. Aiming at a world where women are seen for what they are instead of what someone think they should be, a world where women can walk, safely, in any street, any place, any home without being a prey. A world where men are not kids anymore, where they have learned to exert self-control and recognize women as an individual to comprehend instead of a product to acquire.
The meaning here is emancipation, consideration and safety.
Thus, not misandrist Feminism has many reasons to be viewed as a desirable force for society, for girls, women, boys and men. Justification has been served, in 2024, for any country you may conceive !

I'm 24 and I've been burned in the past for going the old school gentleman route then I got away from it during the military and college and was more "modern".
However, I realized I felt better doing the old school stuff and the girls that do appreciate it it makes a huge difference.
Angry feminists may stop people from voicing certain opinions (not so much anymore but during covid and BLM cancel culture they sure did) but they can never stop how the majority of people feel

My father and brother were very protective of me when I was growing up and my husband is now. I am very careful when I am not with a male family member or friend.

In history women lacked basic rights and they still do in some countries around the world. Feminism at its root is the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. MRA groups exist for a reason too and they are about Men's rights so are they about female degradation because they are not focusing on women? No they exist because even men have rights issues. As a egalitarian I believe that women and men needs equal rights, both movements are based on such beliefs. Extreme groups exist within any movement , but they don’t define the whole.

Though I have seen how the system treated my sister when she was with a man that abused and nearly starved her to death, She has not recovered from that shit either.

ManInChains is not wrong. I stand by what he says about feminism. Feminism has become a joke. Women are not as oppressed as they used to be. In fact, they are becoming more ahead in many fields. Men are victims of violence and rape that goes far unreported because of being shamed. My good guy friend was a victim of rape and never reported it because of shame.
