What does it truly mean to put yourself out there?

I think I’m confused at this point because I don’t wanna put myself into situations where I can be harmed.
I believe I do go to certain places alone already such as eating out by myself or going to the grocery store.
I already dress up. Meaning dress, sensible shoes, a little make up not to overbearing. And not too revealing because I don’t want to attract the wrong attention. I think at this point I may consider moving to a different state. I don’t think online dating is for me.
