Remark messing with writing confidence?

I've always loved writting and have always been told I'm good at it. I was writing a book and my boyfriend who also loves writting was insistent I show it to him even after I said I'd prefer not to bc I knew its the first draft. I ended up showing him the first chapter (at the time I had ten done). Once I sent itto him he sent pages worth of criticism and how it doesn't make sense things I should do instead and how I have to work on my writing. While I know that it was probably in good faith it really hurt and I can't get back into writing nor show him with any hobbies of value to me. Thoughts? What should I do? I have spoken to him and he has appoliges but it hasn't really helped.

Probably half of writing is editing. Remember your boyfriend is not your target audience and so you should take what he days under advisement but understand he is nothing like an authority here.

But expect heavy editing all the same. Especially take note of his grammar and spelling feedback, if any. Plot holes are good to keep in mind, too. But actual plot development is simply not his business.

One thing I have learned about writing, which is my profession, is that you have to have a little bit thicker skin in order to be successful at it.

One option would be to honestly laugh at his audacity.. You're always gonna find someone who thinks they could've done it better. Let 'em try. lol Writing is a painful process.
