I met this NBA player last year over Instagram. I'm a regular person and have no idea whyd he would even be interested in me. You get drafted (*) BEFORE you are in the NBA.
You get traded AFTER you are in the NBA.

(*) The only exceptions regarding being drafted are expansion drafts and dispersal drafts.

With an expansion draft, there's a new team joining the league and it needs players, so an expansion draft occurs in which the new team gets to pick some players from the existing teams so this way the new team is competitive right away.

However, the NBA isn't expanding this year and hasn't expanded in a while. (Charlotte Bobcats in 2004)

With a dispersal draft, a team folds meaning it no longer exists, so its players can play for other teams. So, when the dispersal draft occurs, each of the remaining teams get to pick the players from the old team.

But no team has folded in the NBA since before I was born. (Baltimore Bullets in 1954-1955)
